• Riverhouse - Dear Mark - You have such a fabulous guest home. We really enjoyed our time here. It's in such a beautiful location, so quiet and private. This special place is spotless, well stocked, spacious and tasteful. The boogie boards and chairs came in handy too. The Riverhouse is the perfect combination of living in the natural wildness of Hawaii with the creature comforts of A/C, DVD's, screened windows, washer/dryer and all the other amenities you provided. We will definitely return and recommend your estate property to our friends.

• Guest House - Wow! What a week... This was our first trip to the Hawaiian Islands and I think we picked the right spot! After being out all day exploring it was so nice to come back to a very comfy relaxing home every evening. Falling asleep each night to sound of the river and occasional rain was always relaxing. Not only was this our 10 year anniversaryit was also the first vacation we have had in 10 years and it was exactly what we both needed. We're going to have to plan our next trip soon and maybe bring the kids next time. Aloha and Mahalo...

• Guest House - Dear Mark - Thank you for creating such an amazing hideaway! Having honeymooned on Kauai in 1996 this was the perfect place to celebrate our 15th anniversary. Some highlights - Hiking the Kalalau trail nearby (Well worth the effort), Snorkeling Tunnels Beach and a boat tour of the Napali Coast with Napali Catamaran out of Hanalei that included seeing a pod of at least 20 dolphins. Oh and sitting on an almost deserted Lumahai Beach then coming "home" each night to dinner on the Lanai falling asleep to the sound of the river. It was fantastic!! Kind regards...

• Riverhouse - Aloha Mark! I want you to know again what a wonderful time we had! Your attention to comfort, style, and details was phenomenal and greatly appreciated. I couldn't have asked for more! For this Hawaii girl, it was a dream come true - to show my husband Kauai, have him experience old Hawaii, plantation-style living, and romance was glorious. He fell in love with the island and is looking for ways to get transferred there, which he could do since his company has an office in Lihue. He would work either there or Barking Sands. My boys were overwhelmed too!

• Guest House - After visiting our yuppie friends at the St. Regis Hotel yesterday we realized how much we appreciate the Guest House. The hotel's "authentic" Kauai Experience is centered around an immaculately manicured golf course, $15 Mai Tai and, ceramic fish spewing out streams of water into the pool. There, we were also so privileged to meet the "Native Hawaiians" dressed in their historically accurate attire of kaki shorts, blue polo shirts and Rebok shoes. We quickly returned to our wonderful abode here, BBQ'd Mahi Mahi and Ono steaks then enjoyed them on the Lanai with locally farmed fruits and vegetables complimented by a nice bottle of red wine. Any experience of Kauai is a good one. We were lucky enough to have spent ours in this lush corner of the island. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to experience true Kauai here at River Estate.

• Riverhouse - What a wonderful place to stay on our first trip to Kauai! The bar has been set high...We're not sure if we could ever top this place. It's peaceful, tranquil and above all relaxing. We snorkeled at tunnels beach, scuba dived in the south near Poipu wih Fathom Five dive shop and did the hike to Hanakapaii Beach from the end of the road at Ke'e Beach, We can't wait to come back!

• Riverhouse - Mark - We had an absolutely wonderful stay at River Estate! You really thought of everything to make this place as comfortable and beautiful as possible. We have already talked about when we'll be back!. For future guests here are some of the highlights of our stay on the north side that we'd recommend. Hiking to the first beach and waterfall on the Kalalau trail. Secret Beach and lava pools and then lunch at the Kilauea fish market. Snorkeling at Tunnels. Sunsets at Hanalei bay and last but not least enjoying this spectacular house! We'll be back soon.

• Guest House - It's easy to dismiss the Hanalei weather advisories while you're sitting through perhaps the wettest winter in California's recent history. I mean how odd can the weather be in paradise? How odd? Let me tell you...When you can see the lightening through sleeping eyes, when the thunder rolls across the bay and through mountains and shakes the house like a California earthquake, When the Hanalei river overflows and you can't leave town, well, that's when you know you're in paradise, albeit paradise noir. Mark we wouldn't have missed it for the world. Wax up your paddle board and come on over for some more wine next year!

• Riverhouse - We were lucky enough to stay in both homes during our stay at River Estate. We loved the high ceilings and open plan of the Guest House and then the wonderful art and homey feel of the Riverhouse. I's hard to choose a favorite. Both spaces were elegant and harmonious to live in. We kept thinking what great taste Mark has! We found ourselves getting completely mesmerized, looking at the river , walking in the garden and forgetting about everything else! A truly magical and perfectly designed place to live on the amazing North Shore.

• Riverhouse - My husband and I absolutely loved this house and this part of Kauai. We wanted to find a place we could have privacy and be away from the crowds. This was definitely the place. Thank you Mark for letting us get married on the property. I can't imagine a more beautiful place to make a life long commitment to the person you love most. We are so sad to be leaving but we vowed to each other that we'd be back.

• Guest House - Mark, What a wonderful home to relax and rejuvenate our physical batteries. These two weeks were incredible for several reasons: Volcanic activity on the Big island, heavy rains on the west coast of California, record snow in Utah and Colorado. Tornados in the mid Atlantic states and freezing storms on the East coast. Then a horrific earthquake in Japan followed by an incredibly damaging Tsunami followed by a radiation scare for the whole world. Meanwhile here in Hanalei we experienced over 25 inches of rain with wind gusts of over 50 miles per hour. With all of this, believe it or not, the Riverhouse was just what the doctor ordered. The house is beautifully appointed, quiet and filled with good chi. Thanks Mark for allowing us the time to "Get Away". Mahalo and Aloha!!

• Riverhouse - We are sad to leave Kauai and the Riverhouse. We had a great week and loved the location and amenities of the house. It was perfect for what we wanted. All the comforts of home plus luxury. To future guests - The Dolphin fish market in Hanalei has superb fresh fish that was perfect for the Riverhouse grill. Secret beach is worth the trek and alwayshave the Ultimate Kauai guide book handy. We found a copy in the house. It won't let you down.

• Riverhouse - Some of the highlights of our trip to Kauai: The House, The House, The House, The House, The House! We have been so happy in this house! It's beautiful, extremely comfortable and very user friendly. We made use of all the beach gear and went to the farmer's market nearby.We set ourselves up and made ourselves at home here. (Maybe a little to much?) Love the location. Haena and Lumahai became "our" beaches. Thank you for everything Mark. We've had an awesome and unforgettable week here.

• Guest House - We had a successful trip with my parents for their 45th wedding anniversary. The surf was high on the north shore so long driver to Poipu and Anini were rewarded for snorkeling. We had great weather all week though dry and partly sunny each day. The citrus fruit in the garden was amazing. Highlights of our third trip to Kauai included kayaking the Hanalei River, three hours in the Limahuli Gardens nearby, whale acrobatics seen near Poipu, a run up to the Hanakapiai falls and body surfing Hanalei Bay. • Riverhouse - The River Estate has been an amazing retreat for us. We have loved going to sleep to the sounds of the river and country around here. On our second day here we spent hours playing on the property and admiring all the flowers, plants and fruit trees. We got some great photos near the back of the property! The house is in excellent shape! We appreciated all the kitchen supplies, washer and dryer and the ipod /cd dock. Mark the owner has done an incredible job of making this place as easy going as possible. He provided everything we needed and more! The Kauai guidebooks came in handy, and the Hawaiian music, towels, boogie boards, snorkel gear, beach chairs and mats made our visit here that much more enjoyable. The artwork in the home has been a great delight. We love the piece above the TV and the embroidery above the master bed!! So incredible!! We will definitely recommend River Estate to all who visit Kauai and thank you Mark for an amazing stay!

• Riverhouse - I had been looking at different housing options for our honeymoon and was really hoping to find someplace that was private and secluded but was also close enough to the things that we wanted to do/see. I also was looking for a house that was in beautiful surrounding... I found that and more with the River Estate! We stayed in the Riverhouse which has just been superbly re furnished. The place was immaculate and had everything we could want... full kitchen, hot tub, A/C in all the rooms! The bed in the master bedroom was the most comfortable bed I have EVER slept on. We spent almost every morning eating breakfast on the lanai watching the river flow by... I wish we were back there right now! I've been to Kauai as well as Maui, Oahu and the Big Island before and this was the best place I've stayed by far and was exactly what we needed to relax and feel at home. The owner was wonderful to talk to and was very helpful over the phone! We had a wonderful time exploring the island and always looked forward to coming back to the house at the end of the day. We also spent a few days sleeping in, walking to the beach or around Hanalei town and watching a DVD while eating dinner. The north shore of Kauai is probably my favorite area in the world and the River Estate is now my favorite place. Thanks to Mark for making our time in Kauai such a dream honeymoon and for offering such a wonderful place for travelers to experience the majestic island of Kauai!

• First Riverhouse Comment Since Re-opening - This seems to have become an annual trip for us to Kauai and this week again was tremendous. Our stay at River Estate was a refreshing change from Hanalei and Princeville. The local flavor out here is definitely worth experiencing. Complete with the 1AM fishing in the river! The weather was absolutely incredible and quite possible the best of our 5 trips to the island. Mark was very accommodating by providing new Tommy Bahama beach chairs, DVDs and Hawaiian CDs also driving down with a new hair dryer as we were first to stay in the renovated Riverhouse. We would definitely recommend the River Estate and will consider it for future trips.
